Decker was always viewed as a traditional country artist however, the album's promotion and production was targeted at an audience that was more popular. Decker struggled to get more control over her music put out after her prior singles weren't very well-received. Decker's sophomore album, which was announced under the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and three singles failed on the charts for country. Decker was released from her contract.
