Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's family moved to Louisiana in the age of 9. Decker then won a regional talent contest with a performance of "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" performed by Patsy Montana. The family of Decker moved out of Louisiana and into Georgia in the summer of 1995. She had started to write songs and she was making frequent visits to Nashville. Looking for an agreement, Decker visited record labels and music publishers. Songs were released to record companies as well as other artists by an agent from Big Yellow Dog Records agent in her teens. Decker agreed to sign a contract to sign a deal with Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records' president David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. Jessie James, her moniker for the album she debuted under that name in August 2009, was self-titled. Jessie James, which featured Wanted as a hit single in the Top 40 Singles Charts was moderately well-received. Decker was always viewed as a traditional country artist however, the album's promotion and production was targeted at an audience that was more popular. Decker struggled to get more control over her music put out after her prior singles weren't very well-received. Decker's sophomore album, which was announced under the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and three singles failed on the charts for country. Decker was released from her contract.
